You are responsible for contacting your insurance company prior to your first appointment if you want to check your coverage for outpatient nutrition counseling.

Things to Ask your insurance company:

  • Does my plan cover medical nutrition therapy (procedure codes 97802 and 97803)
  • Do I have a deductible to meet before my sessions are covered?
  • Do I have a co-pay or co-insurance for these services
  • Is there a limit on the number of sessions or units covered?
  • Do I need a referral from my doctor?
  • Are there specific diagnosis codes that are reimbursed?

  • MT Medicaid (20 yrs of age and younger or if there is a dx for Diabetes or Kidney Disease)
